Wills, Trust and Probate

Wills, Trust and Probate

Headed by Andrew Almond as a member of the prestigious Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners, A Halsall & Co’s team of highly experienced and knowledgeable solicitors are preparing Wills each day of the week for clients from diverse backgrounds.

The Law Society’s Wills and Inheritance Quality Scheme (WIQS) provides a best practice quality mark for wills and probate advice, and helps clients distinguish between providers that are unregulated, uninsured and untrained.

Halsalls were delighted to be one of the first 15 firms in the country to be accredited in 2013 following a rigorous assessment by the Law Society which resulted in their high standards of practice and integrity being recognised under the scheme.

Law Society president Nicholas Fluck said:

“WIQS is an important tool in reinforcing the importance of using a solicitor for will-writing and estate management. It offers reassurance to consumers and helps law firms stand out in an increasingly crowded market.

Anyone can set themselves up as a will-writer, but only a law firm with qualified solicitors meeting high standards can be a member of WIQS. Accredited firms can use the branding to promote their business, while consumers can make informed choices about who is best placed to write their will or administer probate.”

There is no “one size fits all” approach, our skills ranging from short simple Wills to highly complex documents tailored for clients who may have children from different relationships and a range of high-value personal and business assets to dispose of.

Your Will may be partly prepared around the need for tax efficiency where you are leaving a substantial estate which might bear a large burden of inheritance tax.

We are always alert to this and take a proactive approach in recommending solutions.

We frequently advise on the impact of different taxes on an estate, and various types of trusts that can be incorporated in a Will either for tax reasons or to protect the ultimate destination of assets.

We offer secure storage of all Wills that we make for our clients, without charge, in contrast with unqualified Will writers or indeed the banks who frequently apply an annual charge for that service.

Each year, new clients bring to us defectively written Wills that have been made by unqualified Will writers and which we have the expertise to immediately put right.

With enviable strength and continuity over generations, A Halsall & Co can be a wise and cost effective choice to act as executor in your Will.

Probate

Our executorship services range from handling estates valued at less than £10,000 to many valued at more than £1 million.

We have depth of experience in every aspect of administering estates whether in the primary role of executors appointed under a Will or in assisting family members as executors in understanding and carrying out their duties.

Your case will be dealt with by the Partner based at the office dealing with your transaction.
